The three of us mix things up a little bit with a reading to help us get in the mood. We discuss the differences between faith and belief, religion and science, past and future. But, most importantly, our two kittens interrupt us with their mischief.

Had a wonderful podcast with Cristina and Michael Friedman, two good friends who run Shmakee foods. They sell a number of items from pickles, to eggs, to green tomatoes! We sat them down and asked about their story and how they kept the faith moving forward in their business. We learned to just keep swimming with patience.

We sat with two very special guests, Mark Tabbert and Alexa Foster, from the non-profit organization Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL). Discussing climate change in-depth, the five of us talked about the future of climate change and the importance of HR763— which is the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, a bipartisan climate solution. This bill is huge because both republicans and democrats unify in support of it to combat climate change.

In this episode we have a wonderful dialogue with our family friend, Jake Do. We discuss the pursuit of happiness within our society and how happiness is looked at today. The topics bounce around from people going to war with themselves to find happiness, the fake happiness in social media, politics, frequency, vibrations and the glorification of suicide. Sadly, Barbara Al-Bayati was out of town in this episode, but we nevertheless had a wonderful and entertaining discussion.

We talked about the context of god in consumerism, the divine masculine and feminine, ancient societies, the promotion of misogyny, consumerism's inherent destruction of nature, the tiny home movement, climate change, religion, spirituality, war, taxes, minimalism, zero waste, Ecofeminism and much more. Definitely hard questions to answer, but nevertheless a lot of fun!

Karma and the Ocean (ft. Capt. Wayne Carr) | The Bayat Beat [002]

In the second episode we are serendipitously visited by fishing boat Captain Wayne Carr. He brought us delicious Poke so we sat him down to engage in a deep dialogue. We discussed having faith as a Buddhist in today's political and environmental state, reflecting on Karma, life, death and the balance of it all. The Captain tells us stories of himself at sea, surprising every with his joyful outlook on suffering, giving us hope for the future.

Deceptions of the Media | The Bayat Beat [001]

In this first installment of The Bayat Beat we talk about deceptions of the media and its effect on people, society, culture and race. It was a brilliant first episode hitting it hard with deep topics and looking back on experiences from World War II until the present. Yellow journalism or "fake news" is a big and important topic in today's world and with the evolving voice and facial recognition software it'll be interesting to see where it goes.
